Schipperkes/Duck Tolling Retrievers
Our Start

ARCTIC GOLD'S HISTORY
Arctic Gold came into being after three years research on Schipperkes. We wanted a small, intelligent, healthy, easy to groom dog. The Schipperke has proven to be all those and more.

During that research journey we also looked at breeders, choosing two fine Canadian Kennels for our beginning. Loki [Am. CH Camplarens' Laska Lady], our foundation bitch, came to us from Camplaren Kennels near Ottawa in Eastern Canada. Mark [Am. CH Mardeck's Mark of Diplomacy], our foundation male, came to us from Mardeck Kennels, also in Ottawa. Their reputations and breeding history were found during my research into the breed.

It all began in 1992 when I got Loki off the plane. She flew from Syracuse, NY, the breeder having brought her to the U.S. to ship, straight to Seattle. My parents picked her up and kept her over that weekend, and then sent her up to me. She was three months old. Mark came about 18 months later at the age of 9 months.

We had fun learning the breed and showing them, with both earning their American Championships. In 1994 our first litter was born. Both pups became Champions.

Our first home bred boy, Diesel, [Am/Can/SKC, Int'l BIS CH Arctic Gold Alaska Crude, Am/Can CD, RN] went on to a fine career, earning numerous group wins, his Canadian championship, a championship from the States Kennel Club, and a championship and Best in Show at an International show. He went on to obtain his Canadian CD and American CD in just three trials each, and his Rally Novice title. His sister Raven eventually became my husband's fishing buddy at our cabin companion during the summer.

The next litter (1996) were two girls, [CH Arctic Gold Black Diamond] Gem and [Arctic Gold Black Ice] Babs. Babs became the constant companion of a dear friend in North Carolina, while Gem went on to enjoy the show ring. Gem was bred to a lovely boy [CH Elan's Touch and Go] (2002) and gave me two more girls, [CH Arctic Gold Cool Charisma] Yancy, and [CH Arctic Gold Coven's Brew] VooDoo.

Diesel and Yancy (2003) were bred and produced two girls and a boy. The two girls went to wonderful homes, and the boy stayed. He is Rumor [Am/Can/Int'l CH Arctic Gold Double Check] recently obtaining his Canadian Championship, and now obedience and rally wait in the wings.

Diesel was then bred to VooDoo (2005) and produced a boy Bond, [Arctic Gold Eye Candy], and a girl, Soda [Arctic Gold Ebony Princess]. Soda went to a wonderful home in Eagle River north of Anchorage and Bond went to a superior show home.

As you can see, we do not breed for volume, but for quality in both temperment, beauty, but most of all, health.
